Souvenirs bought: all of them!
Wednesday is my favorite day of the week, and St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday. It just so happened that the year they happen together I am in Mexico. I was totally stoked about it! I was wearing my "I *clover* St. Patrick's Day" shirt because you can't have "clover" with out "love"... or "lover" for that matter.
Anyway, what better way to start a St. Patrick's day than at the pool? After a nice and kinda chilly swim, a couple of us headed up to the room to start making lunch and shower so we wouldn't have too much of a line of people waiting for the shower. When we got there, the cleaning lady was there, so we had to wait. The lunch menu was spaghetti with chorizo. Eventually we all got clean and ate some delicious food! Then it was off to Bucerias.
We wandered around, haggling and buying souvenirs. Eventually after all that, we decided to stop and eat. We ended up at this little taco shop. We sat down and ordered some quesadillas and tacos (so delicious!). As we were eating, every time I saw someone wearing green, I would wish them a happy St. Patrick's Day. I'm fairly certain everyone thought I was drunk. Maybe drunk on the day?
So, we were sitting there eating when I saw this guy walk by. Double take. It was totally Alfredo! So I invited him to join us. He said he would try to meet up with us later, so I told him where we'd be at the beach. After food, we headed back to our beach chairs (I say "our" because we spent a lot of time in them). A couple beers as we watched the sun start to set... it was perfect. We checked out the festivities where there was a live band, and people started talking of heading back. It wasn't even dark yet! Marian, bless her soul, said she'd stay with me. We went back to the beach and got another drink. It was dark at that point, and we watched the water creeping up under our chairs. Music was on the mind, and we headed back to the live music. After listening to some pretty bad covers of songs, we figured we'd head back. 9 o'clock is more justifiable. As we were looking for a taxi Marian spied Alfredo waving at us. He was at a restaurant, so we went over to say hi. He apologized for not joining us, but he was having a really good conversation with the owner of the shop (a world famous painter named Raul Casillas Romo I think) and asked if we could meet up in an hour.
Marian and I stopped at Miguels (the site of Mandi's earlier marimba display) and got a drink. Really good conversation followed, and the hour passed very quickly. We met back up at the St. Patty's Day festivities at a bar called the Shamrock. Alfredo showed up late (it's Mexico, what does time really mean?). After wandering around a couple blocks, we decided to split a taxi back to the resort since we were all staying there. Once there, Marian decided she was tired (sneaky). Alfredo and I hung out at the beach and talked about life, the universe, and everything until 3 30 in the morning. He had a flight at 7 am, and I really don't think he got any sleep in between. Good times.
