I write this at my sister and brother in-law's house. She just brought me a mug of hot apple cider, we're watching "The Santa Claus", the Christmas tree is lit and it's snowing. I am currently involved in a stereotypical Christmas, and I love it. Yes, I even enjoy the snow falling... mainly because I get to go back to warm Texas in a couple days. I am so happy I get to spend Christmas with my sister and her husband!
Okay, I road tripped it up to Missouri with a friend of mine and spent a few days hanging out with our other friends (who live in Kansas City), causing trouble, and participating in shenanigans. Saw the Plaza all lit up in its glow-in-the-dark wonder. Visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (FREE!). I must say, good times, good conversations, good people... it was a good visit.
Yesterday, I took the train from KC to St. Louis. I was actually quite impressed with the train. It was much better than the bus, and flying is expensive, so I would call it a win! I leave here on the 29th... flying back to Austin. So, this whole trip will be a plane, a train, and an automobile! How many times do you get to go on a trip like that in the US?
Christmas shenanigans rule! On Christmas eve, we spent the evening at my brother in-law's family's house. We played games, opened presents and sang carols by the old player piano. Good conversation, good people, good times. That player piano was fantastic! My sister wanted to show me how it worked and before I knew what was going on, the family had gathered around the piano and we were all singing carols. I feel like I stepped back into the 19th century. I always thought that those parties would be kinda dull, but having a group of people gather around the piano with no provocation and just start singing carols was awesome! We had so much fun. Also found out there are several verses to Jingle Bells. Go figure. Afterwards, we came back to the house and their neighbor came over. Monopoly... let's just state the obvious here, it's a long freakin' game. This whole trip from Austin to Kansas City to St. Louis has just been a total blast, and as much as I miss the warm Texas weather, I'm so glad I got to come up to Missouri! So, to my faithful Missouri readers, I love you guys!
Christmas Day we went to my brother in-law's grandparent's house for the second round of playing games and opening presents. Once again, good conversation, good people, and good times. We played a couple really fun games that got me thinking. I love games like that. I feel like my brain has officially been exercised.
Boxing day was a day off from the festivities. We went out for pizza, did a little shopping and went back to the brother in-law's family's house. More good conversation, good people, and good times. This has definitely been one of the best holidays ever! The evening has games in store... not sure which ones, but it looks to be entertaining.
I hope you all had happy holidays (whichever ones you celebrate... and if you don't celebrate holidays... well, I hope they weren't happy. JK) and got to spend good times with good people. Thanks for reading! You'll probably hear from me again after the new year begins!
