5 years ago on New Year's Eve, Christina and I were in Venice, Italy. This was the night that I saw a penguin dance, we got harassed by lots of skeezy guys that only knew three phrases in English (what is your name? you are very beautiful. Dance with me.), Christina had her first glass of wine, and I had my first kiss. Weird to think my first kiss was when I was 19, but it was definitely memorable. What a crazy night! Fireworks and insane crowds... Good times. :)
My dear friend, XT, visited me while I studied abroad. She arrived on the 29th, I believe, and we wandered around Edinburgh (I failed at uploading those pictures...sorry). These pictures find us in Milan, Italy. We were hungry, and all I had to offer were a few packs of ramen noodles. No bowls... but there were mugs... and a rapid boiler. We were very creative. And now for one of my favorite pictures... an an artsy one at that.
Five years ago today, Christina arrived in Edinburgh and we began our two week adventure. We met up with some friends of mine whom I had studied with, and we explored Edinburgh.
Apparently, I took two pictures five years ago today. I spent this day alone. My sister had left, and I was pretty down about that. My good friend, Christina was arriving the next day, and I was pretty excited about that. It was nice to have a day to process the amazing trip that had just ended and the new and exciting one that was just beginning.
This is one of my sister's pictures. The December 27th of 2006 was an especially sad day because this is the day my sister left. We had some amazing times together, made some awesome memories, and had our share of arguing. I wouldn't trade this trip for anything. It was fantastic!
Let me tell you a story. Picture it, Christmas Day 2006. The fountains of Madrid had frozen in the night and all the businesses had closed. This is the day we visited 5 different Starbucks...
... where they spelled my name right without me telling them. And as a Christmas gift to our parents, we called them collect. Eventually we found ourselves standing next to a statue of Don Quixote de la Mancha and Sancho Panza. The pool which stands before them had a thin layer of ice over it. So, as any normal person would do, I started breaking the ice and throwing it farther out into the pool to watch it shatter on the ice in the middle. My sister and I sat doing this for maybe a half an hour... and then other people started doing it.
Yes, even this little old man gave it a try. I knew I was a trendsetter, but at this point I was an international trendsetter!!
On Christmas Eve Day, we wanted to see the bull fighting arena. So we did. It was closed. Right next to it, however, there was an awesome statue that we made good use of. We climbed all over it and made fools of ourselves. Definitely one of my favorite memories.
The 23rd of December 2006. Where was I? I was traveling with my sister still. We were in Madrid, Spain. Fountains and parks, art museums and night life! It was an awesome trip!
This is the day we went to Museo Reina Sofia (the site is in spanish). This is where I discovered my own theories about Picasso and Dali. I also discovered how much I enjoy surrealist art.
5 years ago today, I was in Madrid with my sister. It was just before Christmas and the city was abuzz with life.
Since I've been feeling all nostalgic lately (5 Years Ago) I decided to post a picture from this day 5 years ago.
5 years ago today, I was with my sister on a bus from Barcelona to Madrid. I think it was 6 or 8 hours. Not really sure. It was a long one.
