I recently volunteered to scan a bunch of pictures for my mother. She wanted digital copies and I think it's important to keep the pictures, so I volunteered. There are a few pictures of me, and in most of them I have some kind of awesome outfit on. I have done my best to spare the feelings of others and I have mostly cropped them out. My sister makes an appearance in several of these shots, I don't think she would mind too much that I'm sharing these... I guess we'll have to wait and see her response. My brother and mom both make appearances as well, but the main feature of this post is my awesome fashion sense. Please, take a minute to really take in the many wonderful elements of each outfit. I'll point out some of my favorite things about each. This is the part where you all breathe a sigh of relief because I have better taste in clothes now, right? Well... I realized as I was putting this slideshow together that what I'm currently wearing isn't much better.

The fall season is one of my favorite times of year. This is mostly because of pumpkins. I'm glad pumpkin is seasonal because if I could get it all year round, I probably wouldn't appreciate fall.
I start by cutting the pumpkin in half. With these particular pumpkins, it was easier for me to separate the seeds before scooping out the gunky bits. I put all the seeds in a bowl. I then scooped out all the gunky stuff with an ice cream scoop. I rinsed the seeds with water and laid them out on some aluminum to dry. They'll be laying out for a few days until they dry. I've stored some dry seeds in a jar to be roasted soon. Then I roasted the pumpkins at 350 degrees for about an hour (my oven is wonky). With our awesome blender, I pureed the pumpkin and immediately measured out a cup of the pureed pumpkin for pumpkin bread. I was nervous, but it ended up turning out. It tastes amazing! The pumpkin is super amplified in the crust. TC requested walnuts. I'm not generally a person who enjoys nuts in bread, but this turned out really well. I'm quite pleased! If you want the recipe, all I did was take a banana bread recipe I like and instead of the banana, I used pureed pumpkin. [For reference, 3 mashed bananas = 1 cup, so I just used 1 cup pureed pumpkin because my banana bread recipe called for 3 mashed bananas.]
I was recently inspired to look back and see how I've changed. These are the pictures I have. If you want to see one better, click on the image. I've captioned the images if you're interested in the locations involved. We're not even going to get started on how I've changed as a person... we're sticking just to the physical side. 20052006200720082009201020112012Then and NowI have failed at writing everyday. I just don't have the time for it right now. This puppy is taking up all of my time in a way I wasn't prepared for. Instead, I decided to do a picture a day. You can see my pictures on my Picture A Day page. That page has my inspiration and explanations. I'll try to update it when I remember. It's going to be exciting!
I've thought about this for a while. Some of you follow me on Flickr, which is awesome. I love seeing all the pictures you guys post, but I really just hate how Flickr organizes things. It's really that Flickr doesn't organize things at all. It allows for sets, which is nice, but it's just not enough for my OCD. I tried it out for a year and there are some things I really love about it... for instance, I really like that I can see my stats, what's popular among my pictures, and which of my pictures is more "interesting". I love that I can look on a map for all the pictures I took in a certain area. I never used the editing feature because I love Lightroom too much to use anything else.
So, Flickr is nice, but my OCD won't allow it. Once upon a time, I tried out Picasa. I hated it. I hear it's better now, so I'm going to give it another shot. So far, my biggest complaint is that they don't allow subfolders... I think I can work past that. The problem with not having subfolders is that I arrange all my folders within folders. For instance, I have a main folder called "2011". As a subfolder, I have "Summer 2011". As a subfolder of that, I have the random adventures I have had this summer like "Moab 0622". In each of these final folders, I have an "Edited" folder. So, in all I probably have like 15 folders with the name "Edited". Since Picasa won't allow subfolders, I now have 15 folders with the same name... so I have to go rename them all. Once I get through this renaming process, I think I will be much happier with Picasa than with Flickr. But time will tell. |
