It's the first holiday season for us in our new home, and we have a few traditions that we brought with us.
1. We only get one ornament a year. We don't have very many.
2. The day after Thanksgiving, when I was growing up, we would decorate for Christmas. Now, since we get real trees, I spend the day after Thanksgiving decorating the pets.
3. We have some sort of small fowl at our Christmas event. This started when we lived in the RV and couldn't fit anything larger than a cornish game hen in the oven.
4. I make us new Christmas stockings every year. The first couple years, I knitted them. This year I sewed them.
This year, I realized that we don't actually have decorations for a full sized Christmas tree. So, I made a newspaper garland and strung some dried crab apples from the only tree that produced anything this year. It turned out perfect! We also made sure to get a small tree to compensate for the few ornaments we have.
