I know I haven't updated this in a while, but I've been busy playing the part of "Appointment Setter" for a company. I also haven't finished "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul" yet, but when I get a chance to sit down and read it again, I will definitely finish it... in other words, I'm almost done. It's not a big deal anyway because I haven't gotten "Blood Meridian" yet.
In other news, Comic Con is this weekend, and I am super stoked! It's going to be a crazy, busy... or crazy-busy weekend. Can't wait!
1. So, I started another book. I just started "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul" by Douglas Adams. Like usual, I'll review it when I'm done.
2. Sometimes my neighborhood worries me. I really like where I live. The location is great, but I'm not overly fond of wandering around after dark. If I do go out at night alone, I usually get lewd comments or asked for my phone number. Well, yesterday I was walking to the coffee shop at 10:30 A.M. (yes, a.m. ...ante meridian... yes). Two guys were walking by I got asked for my phone number and wished I didn't know as much Spanish as I do. Really? 10:30?
3. In case you haven't been paying attention to my facebook or twitter, I got an update from Comic Con. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, let me tell you. When I got to Austin, I was pleased to find that there would be numerous festivals and conventions I could attend. I follow people like Nathan Fillion, Jewel Staite, Neil Gaiman, Felicia Day on Twitter. I kept seeing posts about all the great conventions they have been asked to attend. I've always wanted to go to Comic Con, but the closest one to Minnesota was Chicago, and I wasn't about to do that. Oh wait! I live in Austin now. I wonder if they have a Comic Con! So, I checked it out. They sure do! It would end up being around $30-40... maybe more. I didn't want to pay for that... but I really wanted to go. Then I saw the opportunity to volunteer. Not only would I get to go to Comic Con for free, but I would get free stuff as well! I wasn't about to turn this down. I didn't hear anything for a couple weeks, then I got my first update just stating that I was a volunteer. A week or so passed and I got another update. This one was asking the volunteers (there are 100 of us) if anyone wanted to be a captain/supervisor in any areas. This would be extra responsibility, but extra stuff. The update also asked for photographers with professional grade cameras. The instructions were to reply with the area you would want to captain and the reasons you would be good for the position, and for the photographers, the specs of your camera and a few example shots. I replied with a request to be a captain in one of the areas and explained why I chose the area. I also said I would be super stoked to offer my photography "skills". I listed my camera specs and sent 6 example shots. I got an email this morning saying that I was going to be a photographer at Comic Con! Out of the 100 volunteers, there are two photographers, and I am one of them! Basically, I get to wander around Comic Con (see most of the panels) and take pictures of people... sometimes famous people! I am super excited about this opportunity! Also, I figured out what was wrong with the autofocus on my camera...
Those are my random thoughts for the day. Thanks for listening/reading?
